Manufacturing (MRP)

Real production starts with a real bill of materials, not a spreadsheet one engineer maintains. Manufacturing builds from a maintained BOM and keeps the build, the materials consumed, and the labor in one place.

A bill of materials locked in one engineer's file, with builds happening on the floor and nothing recorded, makes costs guesses and recalls impossible. Manufacturing ties the BOM, the order, the materials, and the labor together, so each unit's real cost and the lot a part came from are knowable.

What you can do

• Build multi-level BOMs. Define assemblies and sub-assemblies, with quantities and components that roll up correctly.
• Run production orders. Start a build against a BOM, and issue the components from inventory as they are used.
• Track man-hours. Record the time and labor on each order, so you can see what a build actually cost to make.
• Land finished goods in stock. Completed units go into inventory, optionally with a lot for traceability.
• Trace by lot. Finished goods and components can carry lot numbers, so a recall reaches the right units fast.

How it works

A production order is created from a BOM, components are issued from inventory, man-hours are recorded, and finished goods go back into stock. Because the BOM, the order, and the stock movements share one system, the materials consumed and labor hours are recorded on the order, so you can calculate build cost without a separate spreadsheet.
